After adding three directional lights (two in front of the character and one behind) textures look different and much improved, in other words a bit more realistic than it was before (See picture below). This means that there are lights missing, therefore I chose to include couple of Directional Lights. It might be noticed that the character is very dark in the Unity Scene. – Adding a new component to load the animation (right side of the screenshot) – Referencing “Take 001” animation will enable the character to move (Elegant Walk). From the Inspector tab under Model section choosing Select Tab will reveal the Animation properties and settings. It allows to select the Controller (which is the reference to the object that is to be animated) in our case it is character’s mesh. Search for the Animator component and add it. Selecting FemaleCharacter from the Hierarchy tab (left part of the screenshot below) will reveal several options in the Inspector tab on the right where among many is button Add Component. In order to load the animation we have to add a new component into the Female Character. One of them is the “Take 001” which represents the animation “Elegant Walk”. Looking at the picture below, we can see that expanded icon “FemaleChara…” consists of many elements. The animation is already included inside FBX file which makes it easy to load it to the character. – Female Character (with reduced polygons) loaded in Unity with textures – To make environment more real I added a Skybox to have the world above the character as well as a plane object so that it looks as she is walking on the surface. Textures look better than in 3ds Max, but it is still not near to the real character appearance. This partially resolved the problem of loading materials and textures from the previous posts. The following step is to copy the Texture Maps folder from the AXYZ design folder (where initially female character was used in 3ds Max) and paste inside the Unity Project.įinding textures inside the Texture Maps folder and applying to the appropriate object will load the texture. – Female Character imported into Unity Game Engine –Īs it can be observed from the picture, the female is completely black, without any materials and textures attached. Picture below represents the action taken so far. Once the project is created and FBX file is copied inside the Assets file, we can begin by dragging the FemaleCharacter icon from the bottom panel to the main scene. Upon starting Unity application, the first step is to create a new project where we will include our freshly exported female character in FBX file format. Unity is cross-platform game creation system which is widely used for developing games for desktop, console, mobile platforms and web sites. Selecting the whole mesh (with reduced polygons), biped skeleton component and the animation loaded 3ds Max will prepare the project for FBX, therefore for Unity. In order to load the character into Unity Engine it is required to export the project from 3ds Max (.max) into FBX (.fbx) to be compatible. Exporting Female Character to FBX file format
